Throwback Thursday Y’all!

So, are you all gearing up for the new school year or still chillin’ at the pool? I thought I’d give you a little post about my library and how it’s organized and set up for Reader’s Workshop.  So here is a post from March of 2011.

So if you know me, I’m a little bit particular about my classroom.  Only furniture of primary colors may enter. Everything is labeled and has it place, (except for a few exceptions that hide behind cute curtains) and every book has a special spot.  So I thought I’d share my library organization and how books are leveled.  First the books are sorted in different color bins. In addition, red is fiction, blue is nonfiction, yellow are chapter books and green are poems and song books.

 Our Reading Rainbow
Also each part of the rainbow is a level. A (red 1) is a GR. Level A.
A (red 2) is a GR. Level B, (Red 3) is a C, (Orange 1) is a D and so on.

 Books are sorted by topic.
Then they are all leveled according to the rainbow. See the white dot on the corner of the book.
Besides, each book has a sticker that matches the basket’s label.  This way students can easily return them to their proper place.

Plus I absolutely love books. Can you tell? And I love teaching students to read.  And… I really love Reader’s Workshop.

If you want the library labels and matching stickers, they are all available on my site www.fantasticfirstgrade.com

Also I just placed a Reader’s Workshop Response Sheets Pack on Teachers pay Teachers.  It included graphic organizers for schema, connections, visualization/mental images, inferences, questioning, synthesis and story elements.
Be sure to check it out.
