High-Five Friday!

So I’m link up once again with Doodle Bugs Teaching to share 5 randoms from this week.  I hope you all had a great Spring Break. If yours is just beginning, I’m super jealous.
But enough about that, here are my 5:

Sweet Ms. Tracy Tegler from Creekside Teacher Tales asked me to be a guest blogger on her adorable blog.  In addition, I blogged all about Reader’s Workshop units and great literature to use for each unit.  I also inserted a freebie. You can check it out by clicking Tracy’s button.

This week we started our map unit. Besides, we are looking at maps through a pirate’s eyes.  My kids are absolutely loving this unit.  Here are a few pictures from this week’s activities.

Also we started our unit with the book Follow that Map!  Here is my student teacher completing a bubble map of what the kids know about maps.  Our as we call it, our map schema.
They discussed cardinal directions and then made these compasses from Amanda’s great unit.
We reviewed what we learned from the day before and then my kiddos used their new learning to create these pirate maps and write about them. Love how they even added elevation.
Here are a few of our centers from the week.
Here are my kiddos pirate writing activities. They turned out super cute.

Here is a link to my unit: Maps, Mateys and Mischief.

My kiddos earned a classroom reward right before spring break, so we had a beach party. Talk about fun.  We did beachy activities all day long.  I gave each kiddo a lei as they entered the room. Then they decorated visors with their names.

“Ways to make a Number” lemonade. They wrote the number on the straw and equations on the ice cubes that make that number.

Laying out and listening to a story.

I signed up yesterday for this!
I’m missing a similar race with some of my best buddies, but I’m so excited for this race in the future.
Lastly, have a great weekend!

  1. Awwww your beach party looks adorable! What lucky kids! I'm your latest follower 🙂 This is my first "Five For Friday" because I only started my blog on Wednesday! I love the blogging community already! There's so many great ideas and inspirational posts out here!

Good luck with your color run! I think they're bringing one of those to New Zealand too (where I am)- maybe I should give it a go. I hate running but this might make it fun enough to bear haha!
