Sight Words

We’ve used the same sight word list for quite some time and I love it! But we had to make a few changes to some of the words because they were overlapping with our kindergarten. Therefore, I am taking on the task of making new activities, worksheets, checklists, etc. for our new set of 100 words.  I am pretty pumped about this endeavor, but my creative juices have just about stopped flowing, so I’m not going to take this big project on, until the summer.  If you need a new list of sight words and activities, keep your eyes open, as I’ll post the whole unit in June! I imagine it will be well over 100 pages.  Until then, I thought I’d share my sight word ring with you.   I laminated the following cards and cut them out.  Then I punched a hole in the left corner and put them on a binding ring.  I keep this ring by my lesson plans, so subs and other teachers have an easy explanation of the games I have listed in my lesson plans.  Each morning during our morning meeting, we play one of the following games to help us practice our sight words.  My student’s absolute favorite, is the Mind Reader Game. What are some of your student’s faves?  Click below to download this file.

  1. Thanks for sharing your ideas! My students also enjoy playing musical sight words. You write the sight words on cards and lay them around on the ground. Start the music and the students walk around the words. When the music stops, the students have to stand by a word. Every student reads the word they are standing by. If you want to make it into a competition there can be one less word than student.

  2. Hi Michelle! We loved your list of sight word games and featured them at our blog, Kindergarten Lesson Plans! We made sure to give full photo/idea credit and link back to your site, but we'd love for you to take a look at the feature and, if there are any problems, we'll be certain to take it down immediately!

    Thanks so much!
